About Me

I am Abena Maryan, a Ghanaian Bookstagrammer, Book Influencer, Book Blogger, Podcaster and Creator of #readghanaianchallenge. I joined Bookstagram in September 2019 and started my Book Podcast on 24th May 2022.

Over the years, I have spent much of my time reading African and Black Books. It is part of my journey to become more aware of and understand my society - people, places, and culture. Since my Bookstagram and Book Podcast are extensions of my reading life, you will find books celebrating African and Black Literature on this blog.

I read a bit of everything but my favourite genres are African Literature, Contemporary Fiction, Historical Fiction, Romance, Young Adults (YA), Translated Literature and Poetry.

I am the Creator of #readghanaianchallenge. I started this annual challenge in 2021 to celebrate Ghanaian Writers and Authors during Independence Week in Ghana.

I am a Communications Professional in the Public Sector in Accra, Ghana. I also manage Social Media and create Content for businesses and brands.

I am a creative writer. My fiction has been published in the Writer's Space Africa (WSA) - Ghana and All Ghana a Stage (We Move, Ghanaian Dream in Motion). I am one of the Samira Bawumia Literature Prize finalists for 2022 (Non-Fiction Category)
